Moldavian Folk Music

I found this particular album at a cheapy
CD shop while on one of my World Music hunts i.e. go to a shop and buy something I've never heard of before for under AU$15. Most of what I buy gets just 1 or 2 listens and the styles are filed away in my head, but this CD has stayed on regular rotation. Even my flatmates at the time The Counterfeit Gypsies ended up transcribing several tracks like Mans Dance and Batuta and then recorded them on their last CD.

All the tracks on the Moldavian Folk Music CD are excellent and are played in traditional style with an orchestra - but not in a cheesy modern style.

I can personally recommend this album to those who love Romanian music but would like to extend their listening range without going to far afield - it's very similar, but a little different. Amazon are also selling it pretty cheaply, so it's worth buying.
