KATYUSHA - WORLD MUSIC WITH A BITE

Described as "The Chieftans on crack" and "like a bunch of Irish pub musicians on acid", Katyusha are one of the strangest, but most fun bands you'll see anywhere in the world. With high energy antics that combine toe tapping Israeli Bluegrass with dirty Danish ditties and funky Finnish frolics, Katyusha are a world band in the truest sense and never fail to amuse even the most seasoned folkies. We play music from any country as long as it's a good tune and don't discriminate musically in this regard. As a result, our sets will often cross several continents or genres in a matter of minutes. Although the bulk of our repertoire is traditional folk music, we're not traditionalists in any sense of we let the tunes speak for themselves rather than trying to imitate the culture it came from. We're loud, raucous, fun and always able to get people up dancing.

LATEST NEWS FROM KATYUSHA

May 4th, 2007

I finally got around to converting one of our old videos to DVD and have uploaded a couple of tracks to the website. These particular clips are from one of our "tame" gigs where we promised not to upstage the main act with silly antics. Its probably also one of the few gigs we did where everyone was competely sober!!!

Check out some Katyusha video clips from our 2002 concert in Canberra.

Katyusha at The Irish Club, CanberraWell, we all had lots of fun catching up and doing our annual St Paddies Day gigs!

Even after a year of not playing together as a band (let alone having had a rehearsal), it went pretty much without a hitch!

By the end of the day, we were all exhausted, especially those of us who'd played 3 gigs that day and 1 the night before!

We took some photos of Friday and Saturday if you'd like to check them out.

There's no real news as we don't do much together much any more! We're playing a bunch of St Paddies Day gigs in a couple of weeks though!

This website has also been dormant since 2003, so it's a bit rusty around the edges. Over the next couple of weeks I hope to be able to clean it up a bit and make it brand, spanking new :-)

I did find some silly posters though while searching through the archive. Click the links to check them out!!!
