It's been a while since I've written anything, but it's been a hectic couple
of weeks.
Bizerka are coming along well and our new drummer, Teal is fitting in really
well. It's amazing how much the energy lifts once you have percussion to kick
you along.
We're hoping to do another photoshoot this weekend with the whole band, plus
get everyone to pull some silly faces etc - as we should for a band that promotes
itself as "crazy gypsy circus music."
I'm pretty happy that we're now doing 3 of my pieces, 2 of which have never
been played in public before. I've got heaps more that I'd love to get them
playing once we're comfortable with the current repertoire.
One of my favorite bands, Gogol Bordello recently performed at the Live Earth
concerts with Madonna covering her song Isla Bonita.
It was very different to the original piece, but I think they did it justice
- and with any luck converted more people to Gogol Bordello and their crazy
antics!
For those of you who still haven't heard of them, make sure you check
out the official website and see what they're about. They really are a bunch
of complete and utter nutcases who play Gypsy music the way Shane McGowan plays
Irish music!
