Taiko
literally means "big drum" in Japanese and is used in Japanese
classical music. Although traditionally used as part of a Noh Play, you
can now often hear Taiko ensembles playing solo concerts.
If you've never heard Taiko drumming live, then you've missed out on
an amazing experience - especially when they're playing the huge drum
with sticks that are like tree-trunks - the sound just resonates straight
through your body.
This video clip shows a great Taiko drumming group playing live and
is a good introduction to this form of music, so I recommend you check
it out.
