The New Moon Rises: A Lunar New Year Music Festival

Four Days of Pan-Asian Music to Celebrate the Lunar New Year


The Year of the Rat starts on Thursday, February 7, and WNYC will ring it in starting midnight with The New Moon Rises: A Lunar New Year Music Festival, a presentation of traditional, contemporary, classical and pop Asian and Asian-influenced music.

An exceptional opportunity to learn about seldom-heard instruments, artists, and arrangements (at least in this hemisphere), spanning centuries of musical history to today, WNYC’s Lunar New Year Festival will offer music from Tibet, Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam and China over four days of new, recent and archival programming on WNYC2, available at www.wnyc.org.

WNYC2 kicks of the festival at 12am on February 7 with 24 hours of uninterrupted music from the celebrating nations. The party continues with two hour blocks of programming on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, individually spotlighting each nation with music and commentary.
