Saturday April 25th, 2009In the ever-expanding local Balkan, gypsy underground scene Panonian Wave
are the new kids on the block. The 8-piece band comes truly alive on stage
with a ferocious sound of the viola, trumpet, tamborica, synaptic rocky arrangements
and a love for the music of Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania,
Greece and Turkey.
Panonian Wave's lyrics are in both Croatian and English,
sorrowfully joyous and tragically comedic. While maintaining devotional love
for the traditional roots they are inspired and nourished by, the bands' repertoire
runs the gamut from melancholic stoic Balkan anthems played in 7/8 rhythms
to twisty melodies, harmonies and hot Gypsy jazzy romping tunes that will have
your booty shaking - all night long.
